Breakfast will not only increase your metabolism but will also give you the best energy for your hectic day. Here I have the most potent sample breakfast which is full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory foods that will nourish and fuel you throughout the day. We have steel cut oats, flax seed meal, blueberries, walnuts, and milk. You may be thinking that it will take a long time to cook steel cut oats every morning and you’re right; but this is what I do:
Once a week, I get up and boil about 2 cups of dry steel cut oats with 6 cups of water and to add flavor, I add 3 sticks of cinnamon and 2-3 cloves. I boil this until it is cooked, about a half hour. Check directions and cooking times based on your steel cuts oats. Once they’re ready I put them in glassware and refrigerate. Then everyday, I take my portion of ¾ cup cooked steel cut oats and just add ¾ blueberries, 2 tbsp flax seed meal, and 1 tbsp of walnuts (See picture) . This takes me less than a minute to mix. I enjoy this breakfast 5 days a week and I keep it constant for the weekdays. It’s super nutritious, delicious and packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory foods. For weekends I vary from whole eggs, chicken sausages, waffles or pancakes. I decide what to eat during the weekends based on my mood!
Here are some recommendations that you can follow if you don’t eat breakfast at home because you get up to exercise or would like to have breakfast at work.
You must eat before exercise, not only will this fill up your tank and increase your metabolism, but also it will provide enough fueling for your exercise. You want to eat carbohydrates + protein
- Eat a banana with a low-fat string cheese or,
- a piece of whole grain toast + 2 egg whites, or
- 3 dried figs +4 oz Greek yogurt
Once you finish your exercise then you can have your steel cut oats breakfast mix. I recommend mixing all the ingredients, except the milk, the night before so it is ready to go in the morning. You can add the milk at work.
