Recently, I received a shipment of cherries from North Western Growers, so I decided to make a smoothie using the cherries mixed with cacao powder. Cherries contain anthocyanin, the compound that gives the cherry its deep ruby color. Studies have linked anthocyanin with the ability to fight inflammation. Cherries are also a natural source of melatonin, a compound that has been proven to regulate a person’s sleep cycle. Cacao powder acts as an appetite suppressant by increasing satiety. Cacao also contains flavanols, which studies have shown can help support healthy circulation by making your arteries more flexible, making cacao a heart healthy food. Together, these two items make a delectable creamy smoothie loaded with beneficial nutrients.

Ingredients:
1 cup cherries, pitted
¼ cup 2% plain Greek yogurt
1 cup vanilla soy milk (or milk of choice)
